Frequently

Asked Questions.

What is a 2D/3D/4D/5D ultrasound?

2D means it is a 2-dimensional, flat, black and white image.  For a 3D image, sound waves are produced at multiple angles and produce a 3-dimensional image with depth, almost like a 3D movie. The image has different color hues that give a life like picture allowing you to see what your unborn baby will actually look like.  4D is multiple 3D image frames put together over time to create a movie. 5D, HD “High Definition” Live is far more clearer than the dated 3D/4D technology. The motion is also faster. There is a virtual light source which acts as a digital flashlight by applying shadows and light reflections to create a deeper, more defined 5D image. It also automatically tones down speckle, which greatly enhances the clarity of the image. 5D uses the same safe ultrasonic sound waves as the 2D, 3D, and 4D, and provides a resolution and clarity unsurpassed in the industry. It replaces the orangish colored image, to a flesh colored, more lifelike, image.

What is Real D™, or 6D Ultrasound?

Real D™, 6D - HDLive Studio is the newest, safest, and most technologically advanced ultrasound by GE.  It's GE's newest era of imaging performance.  The Voluson E10 expands on GE’s established reputation – offering new rendering technologies to deliver the best image quality you have ever seen with 4X the clarity.  It does not use a stronger or higher ultrasound strength to obtain images, but rather the most advanced software to create incredibly realistic images.  Like the 5D, Real D™, 6D uses a virtual light source, a digital flashlight, by highlighting the reflection to create a deeper and more refined image. **It does not emit actual light.  It is a software feature only** Our machines are new, well maintained medical machines set in the OB application, and energy levels set by the manufacturer are well below FDA limits.

Is it safe?

Yes!  Studies over decades have found that ultrasound has not caused any harm to the mother or baby.  Ultrasound is the form of  imaging used during pregnancy, because it uses sound waves to get the image, NOT radiation.  3D, 4D, 5D, Real D™, 6D, technology uses the same sound waves to produce the image, but can produce several dimensions, to give us a realistic view of the baby.

What kind of equipment do you use to perform my 3D/4D/5D/6D Ultrasound?

We opened in March 2012, and have consistently invested in the newest, most safest, ultrasound technology.  We upgraded again to the highly-rated “GE Voluson E10” – State-of-the-Art System.  It has the newest software technology, and will allow you to see your baby in Real D™, 6D, like no other facility in the Mid-Atlantic. We believe you should get the quality you deserve.

Does this take the place of an ultrasound at my doctor’s office?

Not at all.  You must be receiving prenatal care with a physician. This ultrasound is not to be used in place of a full diagnostic ultrasound.

Will I always get a beautiful image of my baby?

Yes, but please note that everyone’s interpretation of “Beautiful” is different.  Every baby scans differently, and please remember, that you are paying to see your baby in their natural environment.  Also, there are several factors that could interfere.  Like moms body type, low amniotic fluid, placental location, and position of the baby.  We make no promises that your images will be similar to those you might have seen from other facilities, or our own.  We will make every effort to obtain the best images of your baby.  Please note: the full face is NOT guaranteed, especially if you have an anterior placenta, no matter how many weeks your are.

How far along should I be before I have a 3D/4D/5D/6D ultrasound?

Gender determination can be done starting at 14 weeks.  If you plan on having only one 3D/4D/5D/6D ultrasound session, we would recommend coming in between 27-29 weeks.  However, great images of your baby can be obtained anytime after about 24 weeks of pregnancy.  Many mothers obtain more than one 3D/4D/5D/6D ultrasound, and have images to enjoy from each trimester.  Check out our multiple visit packages here:  www.peek3d.com/pricing

Are you able to tell the sex of the baby?

Yes.  If your baby is not in the optimal position to see the gender, and we can’t see, we will bring you back for FREE.  Please let us know ahead of time if you do not wish to know to the gender.

Does it cost extra for twins or multiples?

No. There is no extra cost for twins or multiples. We do recommend that you schedule your appointment between the 24th and 27th week of your pregnancy, as the babies tend to have room to move and interact with us and each other.

Do you do dating ultrasounds? Or Baby Weight?

We do not do any dating ultrasounds. We do give a baby weight after 27 weeks, but we cannot tell you if your baby is too big, or too small. We just give the weight. It is just for fun. We always refer any medical dating or measurements to your OB Physician.

What do I need to do for my ultrasound?

We ask that you drink plenty of water starting 5 days before your exam, to insure you are well hydrated.  A full bladder is a must.  Please don’t wear a dress.  A two piece outfit is best for belly access.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, appointments are necessary for all of our services. We ask that you show up 15 mins prior to your scheduled appointment for necessary paperwork.

Is it covered by my Insurance?

No; However, we accept Mastercard, Visa, Discover, American Express, and Cash. We do not accept Checks.

What if my baby doesn’t cooperate?

We give 1 free courtesy return visit, if your baby does not cooperate. The visit has to be scheduled within 1 week of your original visit, and M-F during business hours only. No return visits are scheduled on a Saturday. Not cooperating means facing your spine. If the placenta is in the face, there are no return visits, as we cannot remove the placenta out of the face. Please note: the full face is NOT guaranteed, especially if you have an anterior placenta, no matter how many weeks your are.  If hands, feet, or cord are in the face, we do not bring you back. We also do not schedule a return visit if your baby is sleeping. We are viewing your baby in their natural environment, and it is better for them to be calm or slightly awake  to get great images.

There are no bring backs for the Early Peek, the $25 return visits, and Late Peek Package.  There are no bring backs for an Early Peek when nothing is seen.  The $25 return visits are designed to come in as many times as you would like, and are not enough time to try and get baby to move. So what your baby is doing, or how they are laying is what you will see in the short session.  With the Late Peek Package, they are too far along for anything to change if they were not in optimal position, too far in the pelvis, placenta, hands, feet, or cord in the face during the session. If you are 35+ weeks, there are no bring backs for any package.

When can I schedule my Returning Appointment?

When purchasing multiple visit packages, you are saving money up front. A restriction to that is, you cannot book your returning appointment on the weekend. Please see our weekly hours to know when to schedule your 2nd returning appointment, M-F only, for the Pair of Peeks Package. The $25 return visits are M-F only.

What is your Rescheduling Policy?

We require a 48 hour notice to reschedule your appointment.  If you reschedule within the 48 hours, there is a $50 fee.

What is your Refund Policy?

There are NO refunds on gift certificate purchases, services rendered, pre-paid packages, cancellations, or no shows. There are no refunds if you did not hydrate prior to your appointment, and baby is in the placenta, or up against the front of the belly. Please remember, that you are paying to see your baby in its natural environment. They are not always awake. There are no refunds if you are unhappy about the quality of the photos. Every one will scan differently, therefore producing a different image quality. In the case of pregnancy loss prior to your scheduled appointment, we will gladly refund you.

What is your Deposit Policy?

There is a $50 deposit when booking any appointment. The $50 deposit is applied to your package.
The deposit is non cancelable and non refundable. We require 48 hours to reschedule, or it is a $50 fee. There is a $50 no show fee.

What is your Late Policy?

If you are more than 5 minutes late, you will have to be rescheduled to another day. We cannot wait on family members, or friends. Please have your party there at your scheduled appointment time. If you are traveling on 95, especially on the weekends, please allow more than enough travel time to get here. If you are late, and have to be rescheduled, there will be a $50 charge, and it is not applied to the rescheduled appointment.
